Mechanical and radiation attenuation properties of conventional and heavy concrete with diverse aggregate and water/cement ratios

This paper presents the results of comprehensive laboratory work conducted for investigating mechanical and radiation attenuation characteristics heavyweight concrete produced with pyrite, chromium, magnetite aggregates normal weight concretes three different water/ cement (w/c) ratios. Various experiments were to determine compressive strengths, ultrasound transmission velocities, experimental elasticity modules, mass coefficients these concretes. Heavy exhibited similar behaviour in terms strength modules. In concretes, increased w/c ratios (by keeping amount water constant decreasing cement), corresponding density due increase high-density rather than composition concrete. Thus, a high ratio low can absorb more X-rays. Mass converge heavy densities at energy levels.
